Our Story

Our Inspiration and beginnings

In 2015, Kenyan students in Turkey began an initiative to distribute food packs back home during the month of Ramadhan funded by individual contributions from their student

allowance. A tradition upheld to date. From it, BUSARA Empowerment Organization was

born. Busara translates to Wisdom in Swahili. Three friends that were part of the food

distribution initiative, thought it prudent to grow Busara into a CBO with the main focus of

providing sustainable support to allow the community to build and prosper, with the intention of poverty eradication

Our Growth and Motivation

Busara Empowerment Organization then transitioned to more projects such as Hygiene-pack distribution, Shallow well constructions in Tana River, Kwale, Kakamega to mention a few, that are experiencing water scarcity, Solar panel installations in areas with no access to electricity and community center rehabilitation projects with activities such as mentorship programs for teenagers and youth in villages around Nairobi.

From CBO to NGO, The turning point

In 2020, the organization was ready to take the next step and in 2022 it acquired its NGO

status. This has allowed the NGO extend its grasp to additional parts of Kenya such as

Western, North Eastern and Central Kenya with the goal to reach all parts of the country that

could benefit from its program and ultimately the East African Region

At Busara, we are more than just improving living conditions. Our journey is about understanding that WE are ALL in this Together.
